Support gravel is used in the treatment of potable water, sewage and industrial effluents. It is installed as a support layer beneath the filtration media (pumice, sand, garnet or anthracite) in various filtration systems. The support gravel aids in the distribution of air during the backwash phase and allows the filter to remain free draining under heavy loadings.
